The 7th Sustainability Summit for Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean

On Monday, November 20th, 2023 Professor Koundouri participated in the the Seventh Sustainability Summit for Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean Economist Impact Events for Greece, Cyprus, Malta and southeast Europe.

This sustainability summit focused on the of need for urgent co-ordinated action at a global scale, in the direction compliance of the sustainability agenda despite geopolitical the upheaval and fragmentation of the international order.

Professor Koundouri addressed the mission of the SDSN Global Climate Hub, which focuses on providing scientific recommendations for achieving climate neutrality and climate resilience. The Hub has processed various data on the path to decarbonization and the creation of different scenarios for the climate and ways in which we can achieve decarbonization not only in terms of the energy mix but also regarding the structure of energy production. In other words, the European Union can achieve this goal by investing in renewable energy sources. By creating these transition pathways transparently and investing in a European plan that will allow all Southern countries to produce cheap solar energy.
